Data brief

Produce reefer rates averaged $4.02 a mile in the week to 07 April

Where refrigerated produce freight paid best and worst, from USDA's weekly market news.

USDA quoted 57 refrigerated produce lanes in the week to 07 April 2026, averaging $4.02 a mile.

The strongest lane was New York to New York at $15.67 a mile over 150 miles, a load paying $2,350. The weakest was Central And South Florida to Chicago at $1.95.

By destination, New York paid best at $6.00 a mile on average, while Chicago was weakest at $3.03.

These are the only lane-level dollar rates published free in the United States. They cover refrigerated produce only, and the mix of lanes quoted shifts with the growing season, so comparing individual lanes week to week is more meaningful than comparing the average.
