The average retail price of on-highway diesel rose 36.8 cents to $5.967 a gallon in the week to 07 September 2026, according to the Energy Information Administration's weekly survey.
The spread across regions was 2.159 dollars a gallon: California was dearest at $7.764, Lower Atlantic (PADD 1C) cheapest at $5.605. On a 150-gallon fill that gap is worth about $324.
On a 150-gallon fill, this week's move is about $55 more per fill than last week.
Against the same week a year earlier the national average is up 58.4%.
The EIA figure is a retail pump average including taxes. Fleets buying on contract typically pay less, and the gap widens when prices move quickly, so the survey is best read as direction rather than as the number on your own invoice.
