The average retail price of on-highway diesel rose 31.8 cents to $6.285 a gallon in the week to 14 September 2026, according to the Energy Information Administration's weekly survey.
The spread across regions was 2.012 dollars a gallon: California was dearest at $8.039, Gulf Coast (PADD 3) cheapest at $6.027. On a 150-gallon fill that gap is worth about $302.
On a 150-gallon fill, this week's move is about $48 more per fill than last week.
Against the same week a year earlier the national average is up 68.1%.
The EIA figure is a retail pump average including taxes. Fleets buying on contract typically pay less, and the gap widens when prices move quickly, so the survey is best read as direction rather than as the number on your own invoice.
